We need you and your ideas to be part of our historic and unique downtown!

Did you know that the Village of Franklin is a Main Street community? Main Street America is a national organization that supports economic development in historic communities across the United States. Beginning as an offshoot of the National Trust for Historic Places, what would become Main Street America (MSA) set out to support communities facing economic downturn during the height of the shopping mall era. MSA is a resource to support member communities in creating durable economies in historic town centers.

How does Main Street create durable economies? MSA functions on 4 points: Design, Organization, Promotion, and Economic Vitality (just remember DOPE). MSA helps achieve these 4 points through a network of coordinating programs who connect communities to educational resources, grant opportunities, and small business support tools. Here in Franklin, our coordinating program is Main Street Oakland County (MSOC). Some of the resources that MSOC provide include technical assistance and project support, as well as a platform for small businesses to sell their wares online via shopocmainstreets.com.

How else does Main Street help? Main Street communities have access to grants that non-members are not eligible for. Recently, Main Street Franklin was awarded the Sprit of Main Street matching grant from Genysis Credit Union. How can you help? Main Street Franklin works, in conjunction with the village administration, to develop programing, provide
support, and bring new visitors to our historic village. The Main Street Franklin Board of Directors is currently accepting applications for interested individuals able to join as active members. Board membership is an active role that requires monthly participation in board meetings, and assistance with Main Street events and initiatives.
